About Ai

Ai is a Japanese industrial designer and a founder of AIIM STUDIO. She believes in simple, beautiful, and honest design. Her industrial design career started in Copenhagen, Denmark, where her work is hugely inspired by Scandinavian minimal and functional design.

Most recently, Ai worked as a Principal Industrial Designer at Verizon (2014-2017) in their new product development team, where she took on wearable and various IoT projects as the industrial design and creative lead.

In the past, Ai was featured in the publication, Star Product Designers (Harper Design and LOFT Publications) as the lead designer of Lumigon's T2, an android enabled high-end Danish smartphone. T2 was featured on Engadget, CNN Tech News, and chosen as "Best Phones of MWC 2012" by The Gadget Websites.

In 2013, Ai joined Shanghai's new emerging company, AUD Design Consulting Inc. as a senior designer and with the continued partnership with AUD, Ai founded AIIM STUDIO based in the San Francisco Bay Area specializing in designing various IoT products, a home-automation system, an AR device as well as architectural and space design projects. AIIM STUDIO worked with numerous talented collaborators in Silicon Valley including startups and Google.

Ai holds a Master of Architecture from UCLA and worked as an architectural designer in the past at several architectural firms including Gensler. Her multidisciplinary design background and having lived in 4 different countries, Japan, USA, Denmark, and China have made a significant impact on her approach to product design.
